Who Supplies Your Power and Who Issues Your Permit?
Two bills you already have answer the two questions that shape every charger job in southern Wake County.
Find Your Utility on the Power Bill
The company name printed at the top of your electric bill is your utility. In Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, and much of Cary, that is Duke Energy Progress.
Apex is the big exception. The Town of Apex runs its own electric department for homes inside town limits, so an Apex bill may come from the Town, not Duke. Some rural addresses near Willow Spring buy power from an electric cooperative instead.
This matters because rebates and time-of-use rates belong to the utility. A Duke credit only applies to Duke customers, and a panel upgrade needs the utility that owns your meter to disconnect and reconnect service.
Find Your Permit Office on the Tax Bill
Your mailing address does not decide who issues your electrical permit. Your property tax bill does. If it lists a town tax line, such as Holly Springs, Apex, Cary, or Fuquay-Varina, that town's permit office handles the job.
If the bill shows only Wake County, your home sits outside town limits, and Wake County Permits and Inspections issues the permit. That is common in Willow Spring and New Hill. Near the county lines, a bill from Johnston, Harnett, or Chatham County points to that county's office.
Your electrician pulls the permit either way. Knowing the office up front just keeps the plan accurate.

What Changes From Town to Town?
The electrical code does not change. Every town here enforces the 2023 NC Electrical Code, so a charger circuit in Cary follows the same Article 625 rules as one in Fuquay-Varina.
What changes is the paperwork and the property. In-town lots in Apex and Cary tend to be compact, with HOA review on the outside of the home. Lots out toward Willow Spring and New Hill run larger, and a charger in a detached shop can mean a long outdoor wire run.
Weather is shared across the region. Hot, humid summers, pop-up thunderstorms, and the odd ice storm all test outdoor gear, which is why a driveway charger here needs a NEMA 3R or 4 enclosure and a proper cord hanger.
